To ensure the integrity of your voted ballot, drop it off at an official drop off site, or put it into the U.S. Mail – with the proper postage. The official ballot drop off location in King City is at City Hall located at 15300 S.W. 116th Ave, King City, Oregon.

The city has four (4) at-large Council Position coming open, and those winners of the election will complete the 4- year term that will commence on January 1st, 2019 and will expire on December 31st, 2023. The City Elections Officer (the "City Recorder") will accept nomination papers comprising a petition from 8:30 a.m. on, May 30, 2018, through 5:00 p.m. on August 28, 2018.
Important Dates:
If you are interested in running for office, here are some critical dates for your calendar:
May 6, 2018 Any person running for City office must have been a City resident by this date.
May 30, 2018 First day to file nomination papers comprising a petition with the City Elections Officer. Note: signature sheets (petition) must be approved before being circulated.
August 28, 2018 Last day to file nomination papers comprising a petition with the City Elections Officer.
August 31, 2018 Last day to withdraw candidacy.
September 6, 2018 Final day for City Elections Officer to submit names of candidates for the November 6, 2018, General Election.
September 10, 2018 Last day to file candidate statements for City positions with the County Elections Office for the voters’ pamphlet.
Oct 17 – Oct 23, 2018 County Elections Office mails out ballots.
November 6, 2018 Election Day.
January 2, 2019 Oath of Office administered at the first Council meeting after certified election results received from the County.
Filing Terms and Conditions:
- All terms are four years, beginning January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2022
- All positions are nonpartisan.
- All positions are at-large. However, the prospective candidate must choose which position to run for.
- No filing fees are required to run for City of offices.
- City Council positions are voluntary.
- Council members receive actual and necessary expenses that are incurred in the performance of duties of office exc. mileage required conference
How to File for Candidacy – Candidates Filing by Petition:
Approved candidate filing forms are available from the City Recorder/Elections Officer, or you may download them directly from the State Elections Division website at http://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/electionforms.aspx or the Washington County Elections website at http://sos.oregon.gov/elections/Pages/electionforms.aspx.
Step #1: |
Establish your Candidate Committee by completing the following two forms with the Secretary of State, Elections Division: NOTE: SEL220 must be filed within three (3) business days of receiving a campaign contribution or making an expenditure; please refer to the Campaign Finance Manual (see link in Step #5), as filing these forms is not required under certain limited circumstances. |
Step #2: |
File the following two forms with the City Elections Officer (City Recorder): According to the City Charter, all nomination papers comprising a petition shall be assembled and filed together with the City Elections Officer not later than 70 days before the election. |
Step #3: |
The City’s Elections Officer reviews the prospective petition and provides written approval prior to the candidate circulating the petition. |
Step #4: |
The Candidate Circulates the Signature Sheets The candidate (or circulator) circulates approved petition sheets (SEL121) to collect signatures following the guidelines in the State's Candidate Manual (see link in Step #5). The City of King City Municipal Code (section 2.30.030(c) Ord. 0-92-6 § 1 (part),1992) requires candidates to acquire a minimum of 25 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot, and it is recommended that more than 25 signatures be collected.
