The City of King City is chartered using the Council-Manager style government. The City Council for King City is comprised of 7 volunteers elected by the public at large. The Mayor is selected amongst their peers and performs the mayoral duties for a period of 2 years. The other 6 Councilors perform varying duties and assignments throughout the course of their term. These positions are voluntary and not paid. Councilors may elect to submit for reimbursement of costs associated with select conferences, purchases and mileage used or expended through the course of performing their duties.
The Council is the policy-making body of the city. They adopt laws and regulations, annual goals and objectives, and budgets that fund a wide range of public services. Council members give direction to city staff through the City Manager who serves at the pleasure of the city council. The Mayor is the leader of the governing body and presides over the council meetings.
